Bridge Communities contacted Gloria Dei recently with an opportunity to mentor a second family. Considering we’re a few months shy of finishing our first two-year program with a Bridge family, the prospect of mentoring two families simultaneously initially seemed like a big task! The decision to take on a second family was made easier by the fact that the funding will be provided by a neighborhood association in Naperville called “Families Helping Families”. We just received an application from Bridge for a potential new family, and are planning to meet with them in the next two weeks to determine if we have a "match."
"Families Helping Families" already sponsors several Bridge families, but had additional funding to offer a group willing to provide the mentors. And that’s where we need you!
Are you looking for a hands-on opportunity to get involved in helping one family move from homelessness to self-sufficiency? And an opportunity to learn more about the obstacles faced by low-income families in DuPage? Issues such as housing, education and job training, employment, health care and child day care (just to name a few)?
Bridge provides a wonderful training program for new mentors, which will take place again in September. The Bridges for a Better Life Committee is looking for several new mentors to work with a new family, who would probably start the program in January.
If you are interested in mentoring, or would just like more information, you may indicate your interest on the blue sheet or contact one of the current mentors:
Carolyn G.
Ron S.
Karen A.
We would be happy to talk with you about the process of mentoring, and the many benefits of reaching out to our "neighbors," and making an impact one family at a time!
