It’s not just “another thing” to keep up with in your busy lives…..
Confirmation is a place to explore who you are as a child of God!

The pressure on our kids is pretty intense, and the middle school years can be tough.  This is a time when young teens can be desperate to fit in and are trying to figure out their values as an individual.  Loving parents do their best to equip their kids for the "real" world, but the truth is that all parents need some help these days. Let the church help you with the most important task you have as parents--raising your children to become faithful, loving, forgiving, and compassionate adults.   

Church is one place in our crazy world where children are valued for who they are and not for how they look, how much money they have, their clothes, etc.  Confirmation classes help give our kids a place to explore their identity as a child of God.  There is a freedom and grace that comes with a community of faithful teachers, pastors and mentors who accept you as you are, and can help sort through choices as to how you make your way through the maze of middle school and beyond.

They will learn things like the Ten Commandments, Creeds, and Small Catechism.  Why? Because those are excellent guidelines for life!  When they learn from media and peers that greed is good, that it’s ok to get away with what you can as long as you don't get caught, that sex is no big deal, that lying is acceptable, and that cheating is what everyone else does ---confirmation class is a safe place to hear an alternative view. 

Most important, every child is a unique creation of God and should have the opportunity to understand what that means.  Why would you miss that opportunity!?

I welcome your questions, comments, and concerns as we begin this year of confirmation instruction.  I look forward to working with you as your child bumps into conflicts and busy schedules.  At our first meeting you will receive a calendar for the upcoming confirmation year (please be aware that changes are inevitable, but we’ll try to stick to the schedule as much as possible).
