Labor of Love is a group of women who meet once a month at church to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. These quilts are shipped to various parts of the world as needed for warmth, shelter from the sun or a sack to carry possessions. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month from September through June. They meet from 9 until noon tying already sewn quilts and assembling and pinning the layers (top, bottom and liner), ready for sewers at home.
Sewing and cutting is done at home. Squares are cut with rotary cutters, then sewn together to form a top. The layers that were pinned at church are sewn together, ready to be tied at the next monthly meeting.
The last Sunday in September is designated "Quilt Sunday" when the quilts made over the last year are displayed over the pews. After the last service the quilts are boxed, ready to be loaded onto semi trailers the following weekend. They are then taken to a distribution point in Maryland.
If you would like to help Labor of Love and have questions, call the church office at 968-6231. Otherwise, just show up at church on the third Tuesday.
