"Somewhere or other, you will
find what
is needful for you in a book."
George MacDonald
Are you planning to see “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” when it comes out in theaters this December? It looks like it will be a good movie! But did you know that before it was a movie, it was a book?
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is part of The Chronicles of Narnia – a magical and marvelous series for children written by C.S. Lewis. If you or your children haven’t had a chance to read the series, you’re in for a treat! The Gloria Dei Memorial Library has the whole set! Stop by the Library – either before or after you see the movie – to check out the book. Then you can compare.
Which did you prefer?
And what do you know about C.S. Lewis? He was an interesting man and a highly-regarded Christian author; his writings and autobiography are fascinating reading. Perhaps you’d like to try his autobiography, Surprised by Joy (B LEW), or The Four Loves, his ideas on the subject of love (241.4 LEW). The Library has many other works by him.

Why do we have a church library? The purpose of the library is to provide a wide variety of materials for use by members of the congregation to help in nurturing personal growth in faith and understanding of Christian life, to relate to the Lutheran Church at large as well as the whole Christian church, and to enrich the programs and committee work at Gloria Dei. Items selected for this collection generally reflect our denominations doctrines and perspectives and provide specialized resources not usually found in public libraries.
How to Use the LibraryOur facility is always open for browsing, quiet reading or serious study. Staff members are present on Sunday mornings. Check-Out and Return ProceduresBooks and non-print items are available for check-out. Materials normally circulate for 2 weeks, except for Reference books which are marked for one day loan only. If you would like to borrow a book, you must sign it out by writing your first and last names on the book card found in the pocket of the item and leaving this card in the basket on the desk. It is expected that materials will be returned on time. If more time is needed, renewals can be made, unless others have requested the item. Return all items to the "Book Return" basket on the Library desk. DO NOT attempt to return material to the shelves. It is expected that any "lost" or "damaged" item will be paid for by the person who last checked it out. |
