Gloria Dei provides Sunday School from September through May for children age 2 years old through 6th Grade. Our education hour is 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. between two primary worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
During the summer months (June, July, and August), there is no Sunday School and the 11 o'clock worship service moves to 10:00 a.m. Vacation Bible School will be held for one week from August 7 through 11, 2006.
When Sunday School is in session, we have an average of 85 pupils present every Sunday served by over 50 volunteer teachers, aides and administrators.
With stories, music, skits and crafts, our staff of volunteers help the children of Gloria Dei grow in their understanding of God, the Church, and their world. We emphasize that growing in God's love is fun and enjoyable and exactly what God wants for his children.
We start off the year with Rally Day. Time to get acquainted with new classmates and new teachers!
The presentation of new Bibles to the 3rd Grade starts that class on its exciting journey through the Word of God, finding the stories they know and love and learning new ones.
An Annual Lenten Mission Project sets a goal for the whole Sunday School to work toward. Last year over $900 was given to send children affected by Hurricane Katrina to summer Camp Noah.
Fifth Graders receive First Communion after a special family Seder Meal celebration modeled after the Passover meal that was Jesus's Last Supper.
Our families are made up of so many special people that we have a special day for them! Family members are invited to Family Appreciation Day, usually in April.
At the end of the year, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders show how much they learned in a game of Bible Jeopardy.

It's a fabulous free resource to help parents talk to their kids (of all ages) about faith issues. There are resources for Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas, Bible 'n Life, Fun 'n Games, difficult or sensitive topics, and countless other things. All are categorized in terms of age-appropriateness.
And it's not just for kids! There are good thought-provokers for adults as well.
It's a great resource. Take some time to explore it.
