Confirmation Class (a/k/a Junior Youth Group) meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am until 10:00 am in the Youth Room, located in the lower level of the church (take the stairs by the library). Students from 5th through 8th grades learn more about the faith they were baptized into with interesting and fun lessons and videos each week. Students are expected to attend classes, do a special project, and complete hours of service. At the culmination of their 8th grade year, students and their families will come together with the whole congregation to celebrate with them the affirmation of their baptism. This celebration will be during the 10:30 am worship service on May 5, 2019. Email Pastor Josh at pastor.josh@gloriadeichurch.org with any questions you may have.

Junior Youth Group/Confirmation Expectations

Over the course of 5th-8th grade, students are expected to regularly attend junior youth group meetings during the school year on Sundays from 9:30 am until 10:00 am. We understand that there may be conflicts that prevent attendance each and every week. Because fellowship and engaging scripture with other Christians is an important part of faith development, we expect students to attend no less than half of all these classes over the four years.

We think your child will simply enjoy being part of this very welcoming experience in confirmation, so please encourage them to make regular attendance an important part of your Sunday calendar.

Worship Leadership

Another expectation for students that will help them understand what an adult disciple does in their faith journey is in helping to lead worship. There are a variety of things that go into making worship happen each week. You may sign-up your student to help as a reader (2nd Sunday of the month at 8:30 am worship), a youth worship leader (read the welcome and centering prayer and blessing at 10:00 worship), as well as a Communion Assistant or Usher at 10:00 worship. Parents and grandparents, you may also consider helping to lead worship with your child when they signup to help. Students are expected to have served in a worship leadership capacity at least 25 times over the course of the four years between 5th-8th grade.

Please contact Sue Scharping to sign your child up to help at: suescharping@comcast.net

Service Project

Students in confirmation are also expected to engage in service to the community in some capacity over the course of the four years they are part of this program. Twenty-five hours of service are expected, and students are encouraged to attempt to do these hours in one or two longer term projects that fit their passion and skill set. Greater engagement with other people or organizations comes about through regular service, which is why this approach is preferred. After the culmination of twenty-five hours of service, students should submit a report summarizing their experiences through pictures, insights, and a sense of connection to God's calling through service.
